Northwest Park trails: where to start and what is open

New Braunfels residents looking for a local walk can use the natural-surface trails at Northwest Park. The city’s current park page lists the primary trailhead at 965 Conrads Lane and daily access from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. We checked those details on November 5, 2026.
Choose a route from the current map
The park page lists five named routes: Green, 0.3 miles; Blue, 0.5 miles; Red, 1.3 miles; Yellow, 0.5 miles; and Purple, 0.2 miles. These are individual route lengths, not a promise that adding them together produces a single loop. Use the city’s current trail map to plan your route and return to the trailhead.
The city’s October 26 opening announcement describes roughly 3.1 miles of natural-surface trails and rates the initial routes as low difficulty. Natural surface means the paths follow the existing ground; a low difficulty rating does not establish wheelchair accessibility or eliminate uneven footing.
What to expect on a visit
The city reports trail markers on trees, wayfinding signs and a trailhead kiosk. Its opening notice also describes basic parking improvements and portable restrooms. Confirm conditions and any temporary changes before travelling; the posted hours are not a guarantee of access during weather closures or maintenance.
Take water, choose footwear suitable for unpaved paths and use the map to select a distance that fits your group. Those are practical planning suggestions rather than additional rules attributed to the city.
Open trails and future plans are different
The park page says primitive public access is open while long-term improvements are being planned. It links a draft master plan and a separate current trail map. Planned connections to other parks and an eventual combined system of about five miles should not be mistaken for five miles of completed trails at Northwest Park today.
Read the current park page below for the trail map and updates. This guide covers published access information, not live trail-condition monitoring.
